This book presents collected articles, which were published in the German Democratic Republic, between the 6th of June 1989 (begin of PVAP negotiations with the opposition) and the 31st of December 1989 (end of the People's Republic of Poland) in the state-controlled press as well as in the oppositional Samisdat-Printings.
This chronologically and thematically structured selection allows readers by way of comparison to arrive at a differentiated point of view, utilizing as a primary source a cross-section of East German press publications.The publications taken into consideration include: Neues Deutschland, Junge Welt, Tribüne, Horizant, Berliner Zeitung and Neue Zeit. Oppositional and clerical press: Telegraph, Friedrichsfelder Feuermelder, Umweltblätter, St. Hedwigsblatt and Friedensnetz. By covering a wide variety of opinions, readers are afforded the opportunity to uncover conspicuities within the media coverage.
This volume is structured in: Introduction, chronology of the developments in the Year 1989 in the GDR and the People's Republic of Poland, and an index of persons. Dr. Tytus Jaskulowski (born 1976), studied Political Science and Economy, Promotion 2006, since 2006 working for OEZ Berlin, works for the Hannah-Arendt-Institute for Totalitarianism-Science, TU Dresden.
